Dear Families,
Welcome to Nanu's Daycare! We are honored that you have chosen our program for your child's care
and early education. At Nanu's Daycare, we believe in nurturing each child's unique potential in
a safe, loving, and stimulating environment.
This parent handbook has been designed to provide you with important information about our
program, policies, and procedures. We encourage you to read it thoroughly and keep it as a
reference throughout your child's time with us.
We are proud to offer care in Somali and Swahili to better serve our diverse
families.
Our goal is to create a partnership with you that supports your child's growth, development, and
happiness. We look forward to getting to know your family and building a relationship based on
trust, respect, and open communication.

Program Philosophy and Goals
At Nanu's Daycare, we believe that each child is a unique individual who develops at their own
pace. We are committed to providing a nurturing environment that fosters physical, social,
emotional, and cognitive development through play-based learning and positive interactions. We
value diversity and inclusion, striving to create an atmosphere where children learn to respect
and appreciate differences. Our program emphasizes the importance of building strong
relationships between children, families, and caregivers.

Program Information
Hours of Operation
Monday through Friday: 7:00 AM - 6:00 PM
We are closed on: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day
and the day after, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.
Program Description
Nanu's Daycare is a registered family childcare home licensed by the Oregon Office of Child
Care. We provide care for children ages 6 weeks to preschool age in a warm,
home-like environment.
Child Capacity and Age Groups
As a registered family childcare home, Nanu's Daycare follows Oregon regulations:
- Maximum of 10 children total under age 13
- No more than 6 may be preschool age or younger
- No more than 2 may be under 24 months
Provider Qualifications
Nanu's Daycare is owned and operated by Anisa, who:
- Is enrolled in the Oregon Central Background Registry
- Has current Pediatric First Aid and CPR certification
- Has completed required health and safety training
- Has completed child abuse and neglect recognition and reporting training
- Participates in ongoing professional development
- Is dedicated to providing quality care and early education
- Offers care in Somali and Swahili languages
Enrollment Policies
Registration Requirements
To enroll your child at Nanu's Daycare, we require:
- Completed registration form
- Signed authorization forms
- Current immunization records
- Emergency contact information
- Medical information
Required Forms
The following forms must be completed before your child's first day:
- Registration form
- Emergency medical authorization
- Field trip permission form
- Photo/video release form
- Authorized pick-up list
- Immunization records
Trial Period
We offer a two-week trial period for all new enrollments. During this time, either the family or
Nanu's Daycare may terminate care without notice if the arrangement is not working out. After
the trial period, our standard notice policy applies.
Financial Policies
Tuition and Fees
- Registration Fee: A one-time, non-refundable fee of $50 is due upon
enrollment.
- Weekly/Monthly Tuition: Based on your child's schedule and age group.
See current rate sheet for details.
- Late Pick-up Fee: $1 per minute after closing time (6:00 PM).
- Returned Check Fee: $35 for any returned checks.
Payment Schedule
- Weekly payments are due each Monday for the current week.
- Monthly payments are due by the 5th of each month.
- Payments can be made by check, cash, or electronic transfer.
Late Payments
- A late fee of $15 will be charged for payments received after the due date.
- If payment is more than one week late, care may be suspended until the account is
current.
Absences and Vacations
- Tuition is due regardless of absences due to illness or other reasons.
- Families receive one week of vacation credit per year after six months of enrollment.
- Two weeks' written notice is required to use vacation credit.
Holidays and Closures
Tuition is not reduced for holidays or emergency closures (weather, power outages, etc.).
Withdrawal Notice
Two weeks' written notice is required before withdrawing your child from our program. Payment
is required for these two weeks regardless of when your child's last day occurs.
Arrival and Departure
Sign-In and Sign-Out Procedures
- Children must be signed in and out each day by an authorized adult.
- Sign-in/out requires a full signature and time.
- Children will only be released to authorized individuals listed on the registration
form.
- Photo ID will be required for anyone unfamiliar to staff.
Late Arrivals
Please notify us if your child will be arriving later than 9:00 AM. Late arrivals may miss
planned activities or outings.
Late Pick-Ups
- Our facility closes promptly at 6:00 PM.
- A late fee of $1 per minute will be charged for pick-ups after 6:00 PM.
- Repeated late pick-ups may result in termination of services.
Authorized Pick-Up
- Children will only be released to individuals listed on the authorized pick-up list.
- Written authorization is required for any changes to this list.
- Anyone unfamiliar to staff will be required to show photo identification.
Health and Safety Policies
Immunizations
All children must be current on immunizations as required by Oregon law or have a valid
exemption on file.
When to Keep Your Child Home
Please keep your child home if they display any of the following symptoms:
- Fever of 100.4°F or higher
- Vomiting or diarrhea within the past 24 hours
- Unexplained rash
- Eye discharge or pink eye
- Severe cough or difficulty breathing
- Unusually tired, pale, lack of appetite, difficult to wake, confused
- Known contagious disease (chickenpox, strep throat, etc.)
When Your Child Will Be Sent Home
Your child will be sent home if they develop any of the above symptoms while in care. We will
provide a comfortable, supervised place for your child to rest until you arrive.
Return Policy
Children may return to care when:
- They have been fever-free without medication for 24 hours
- It has been 24 hours since the last episode of vomiting or diarrhea
- They have been on antibiotics for 24 hours, if prescribed
- A doctor's note states they are not contagious (required for some conditions)
Medication Policy
Prescription Medications
- Must be in original container with pharmacy label
- Must include child's name, dosage, and administration instructions
- Written authorization form must be completed by parent
Non-Prescription Medications
- Must be in original container with label
- Must be labeled with child's name
- Written authorization form must be completed by parent
- Will only be administered according to label instructions unless a physician's note
states otherwise
Nutrition
Meals and Snacks
We provide the following meals and snacks:
- Breakfast: 8:00 AM - 8:30 AM
- Morning Snack: 10:00 AM - 10:30 AM
- Lunch: 12:00 PM - 12:30 PM
- Afternoon Snack: 3:00 PM - 3:30 PM
Menu Planning
- Menus are planned to meet USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program guidelines.
- Weekly menus are posted and copies are available upon request.
- Meals include a variety of foods with an emphasis on fresh fruits, vegetables, whole
grains, and lean proteins.
Food Allergies and Dietary Restrictions
- Parents must notify us of any food allergies or dietary restrictions.
- We will work with families to accommodate special dietary needs when possible.
- For severe allergies, parents may be asked to provide alternative foods.
Infant Feeding
- Parents must provide formula or breast milk for infants.
- Written feeding instructions must be provided for infants.
- Breast milk must be labeled with child's name and date.
- We support breastfeeding mothers and provide a private space for nursing.

- 8:00 AM - 8:30 AM: Breakfast
- 8:30 AM - 9:00 AM: Circle Time
- 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM: Learning Activities
- 10:00 AM - 10:30 AM: Morning Snack
- 10:30 AM - 11:30 AM: Outdoor Play
- 11:30 AM - 12:00 PM: Story Time
- 12:00 PM - 12:30 PM: Lunch
- 12:30 PM - 2:30 PM: Nap/Quiet Time
- 2:30 PM - 3:00 PM: Wake Up/Free Play

Curriculum and Activities
Our program includes activities that promote development in the following areas:
- Language and literacy
- Creative arts
- Science and nature
- Math and problem-solving
- Social and emotional skills
- Physical development
- Cultural awareness
Outdoor Play
- Children go outside daily, weather permitting (temperature between 32°F and 90°F with
appropriate adjustments for wind chill and heat index).
- Please provide appropriate outdoor clothing for the season including snow boots,
mittens, and hats in winter; lightweight clothing and sun hats in summer.
- In case of inclement weather (heavy rain, snow, or extreme temperatures), alternative
large motor activities will be provided indoors.
Nap/Rest Time
- Children under 5 years old have a scheduled rest period from approximately 12:30 PM to
2:30 PM daily.
- Each child is provided with their own clean mat or cot.
- Children who do not sleep will be provided with quiet activities after resting for 30-45
minutes.
- Please provide a fitted crib sheet and small blanket for naptime (sent home weekly for
washing).
Parent Involvement and Communication
Communication Methods
- Daily communication at drop-off and pick-up
- Monthly newsletters
- Text messages or emails for quick updates
- Parent bulletin board
- Scheduled conferences twice yearly
- Phone calls for urgent matters
Parent-Provider Conferences
Formal conferences with Anisa are scheduled twice per year to discuss your child's progress
and development. Additional conferences can be arranged as needed.
Parent Visits
Parents are welcome to visit at any time during operating hours. We encourage parents to
participate in special events, celebrations, and everyday activities.
Parent Responsibilities
To ensure the best experience for your child, we ask parents to:
- Make timely payments according to the agreed-upon schedule
- Notify us in advance of planned absences
- Call by 8:00 AM if your child will be absent due to illness
- Follow sick child policies to protect all children and staff
- Keep emergency contact information current
- Read all communications from the daycare
- Attend scheduled parent-provider conferences
- Provide necessary supplies (diapers, wipes, change of clothes, etc.)
- Respect daycare hours by arriving and picking up on time
- Share important information about your child that might affect their behavior or needs
Parent Complaint/Concern Procedure
At Nanu's Daycare, we value open communication and strive to address any concerns promptly:
- For routine matters or minor concerns, please speak directly with Anisa during drop-off,
pick-up, or schedule a time to talk when children are not present.
- For more significant concerns:
- Submit your concern in writing (email is acceptable)
- Anisa will respond within 48 hours to schedule a meeting
- During the meeting, we'll discuss the concern and develop an action plan
- A follow-up meeting will be scheduled if needed to ensure the concern has been
addressed
If you feel your concern has not been adequately addressed, you may contact the Oregon Office
